Makalu Expedition is a journey that lasts for a duration of 60 days, and during this time, the climbers spend around 32 days attempting to climb the peak and make their way back to the base camp. The journey starts with a trek that takes you from a small village called Chichila to Makalu Base Camp. During the journey, you make your way through the beautiful Makalu Barun National Park. This initial trek is crucial as it helps climbers’ bodies to acclimatize to the cruel altitude.
Manaslu Expedition
Situated in the western part of Nepal, as a part of the Manaslu Conservation Area, Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world. The mountain is the one that is most preferred by the Japanese expedition teams. They believe for the mountain to be of their own. The first successful ascent on the peak was accomplished by a Japanese climber known as Toshio Imanshi. He was accompanied by GyaltsenNorbu, a Sherpa. It happened in 1957, and the team was led by Maki Yuko. It takes 46 days to climb the mountain, with 28 climbing days. She was forced to spend around 4 days in the Everest Death Zone, and it is the very thing that started the chain reaction which would ultimately result in her death. If there is one thing that the story of FrancysArsentiev teaches us, it’s that the mountaineers need to be at their best when it comes to climbing the peak. One tiny mistake and they might not get to complete the journey and return home safe. Sad but true!
